Our Perioperative Nurse Surgical Assistant Shirley is often the first point of contact for our patients. She is a support person, a coordinator, and a great source of knowledge for our patients.
Shirley holds both a Bachelor’s and Masters degree and is a member of the Australia and New Zealand Metabolic and Obesity Surgery Society.
Built upon with her numerous qualifications is a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of metabolism and weight management strategies.
Shirley Lockie - SCOPE Certified
As part of our dedication to our patients, Shirley has recently attained her SCOPE certification. SCOPE is the Strategic Centre for Obesity Professional Education. This certification is awarded by the World Obesity Federation, and is internationally recognised.
To ensure that SCOPE-certified professionals remain up to date in the latest science of obesity management, people who have attained a SCOPE certification must renew it annually with the ongoing study. This denotes Shirley as an expert in the prevention, management and treatment of obesity, and that she trained in providing high-quality and stigma-free care for obesity.
Key elements of this certification are:
- Working to reduce the disease burden of obesity
- Combating stigma associated with obesity and treating patients with dignity and respect
- Building upon understanding of obesity as a complex, multifactorial disease.
You can learn more about the SCOPE certification here.
Shirley has ongoing access to communities of other SCOPE-certified experts, as well as to the latest research and information about the specialised area of bariatric surgery and weight management.
Obesity - A Complex Health Condition
We treat obesity as the complex health condition that it is, and we know that it takes a range of highly educated people working together to help you to achieve lasting success.
Rather than adopt a quick-fix approach, we provide a multidisciplinary team of professionals. These professionals take a holistic approach to weight loss and look at your diet, lifestyle, hormones, mental health and more to ensure that you are receiving the care you need to lose weight and maintain that weight loss over the long term.
The Dr Lockie Practice - Dedication and Support
Shirley will be your go-between, your advocate, your support, your cheerleader and your coordinator before, during and after your surgery. You will not just be a number on a patient file but will be an important person treated with care.
SCOPE is run by a global non-profit organisation that is focused on providing world-class training and resources based on research by an international faculty of experts. A SCOPE certification is not a quick and easy thing to obtain, but rather a comprehensive certification and ongoing commitment to excellence in obesity care.
This demonstrates the dedication that we have towards our patients. You deserve a wide range of support from knowledgeable, empathetic professionals and we are proud to provide that to you.
